Oscar Sunday

It's been a wet and soggy weekend here in LA. Kind of a bummer for the Oscars. They're squeegy-ing off the red carpet...it's not pretty.

There were so many great movies and performances this year, it's hard to pick my favorites.

I enjoyed every single thing about American Hustle.

So, so good!

These guys will probably win Best Picture but man it was hard to watch the brutal treatment of humans in 12 Years a Slave.

Matthew McConaughey nailed it yet again in Dallas Buyers Club...the favorite for Best Actor.  Another sad movie.

I was thoroughly entertained for three hours watching Wolf of Wall Street, and I loved the sweet and touching story of Philomena.

The stellar cast of August: Osage County was outstanding making it very entertaining.  What's not to love about Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts?  Not to mention Margo Martindale, Sam Shepard, Dermot Mulroney, Abigail Breslin, Juliette Lewis and Benedict Cumberbatch.  So much talent.

In Nebraska, June Squibb and Bruce Dern were amazing.  There's something really special about watching seasoned veterans shine so brightly.

Like I said, so many great movies and performances, it's impossible to pick a favorite.

On a side note, how awesome was the piece today on CBS Sunday Morning on Academy Award winner Eva Marie Saint?  True movie star.   But more importantly, she gets it.  No plastic surgery, 89 years old and looks beautiful.  Walks every day, married to the same man for 62 years, devoted mother and grandmother.  I'll leave you with one of her memorable quotes that is especially appropriate today:

"America is now obsessed with stars in an unhealthy way.  They don't actually deserve this kind of attention.  They're only actors, not scientists who are triumphing over cancer or doing some other wonderful thing." - Eva Marie Saint

I totally agree.  A healthy fascination however, is acceptable.  So for tonight, I'll be healthily obsessed.

How about you?
What are your Oscar favorites?

Have an awesome Sunday.

Copy Cat and Oscars Monday

Sometimes you see a room that stops you in your tracks.  You say out loud to no one "whoa whoa whoa".  I love it when this happens!

Saw this Jeff McNamara image on Pinterest the other day and did the whoa whoa whoa thing.  Then started to break it down.  It's so simple.  I can do this.  My basic bedding is all white.  I have been called a dog with a bone...when I want something I will hunt.it.down.

How cool is Lamps Plus new Color Plus line of lamps in a bazillion colors?

Or here is the actual lamp in the photo, it's this one from Circa Lighting:

Circa Lighting Lauren lamp

For the art above the bed, I already have some great black and white prints that would be perfect.

And here is where my plan hits a road block.

How gorgeous is this lacquered nightstand?  It's kind of important in the overall feel of the inspiration room right?  But's it's $1075!  And obvi you need two.  Yikes.

Herein lies the challenge.  What are some suitable (and by suitable I mean "normal" price range) substitutes?  I'm taking suggestions...email me photos please.

In other news...

Seth was adorable and very funny.

Barbra made me bawl! #memories #hubbell

Jennifer Lawrence charming and deserving.

Ben Affleck was ridiculously sweet.

Daniel Day Lewis..Brits can really make a good speech.

Jane Fonda #bestdressed

I'm out...Have a great Monday.

Backbeat and Oscar Sunday

Proud of my beautiful City of Angels and all that she has to offer.
Pretty day today!

(all photos via my iphone)

I'm old enough to remember when it was said that one thing LA lacked over NYC was culture.  Those days are long gone friends.

Culture?  We got that.

Oh yes, this is totes happening.

Today I made a quick trip downtown
to pick up our theater tickets for next week.  Taking my crew of 6 to see Backbeat at the beautiful Ahmanson Theatre

With two musicians, one actor, two former actors, and one former stage manager in my crew, we love us some theater...especially musicals.

We have a lovely Music Center downtown that is made up of the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, The Mark Taper Forum and the Ahmanson Theatre.

And later as I was traveling across town, I was rudely reminded that it's Oscar weekend...ran into this roadblock smack dab in the middle of Hollywood Boulevard:

I gotta tell you it was a tad cray cray out there.

Anyway...my three favorite films this year:

Who are you rooting for?  It doesn't really matter...it only matters that you get out and see the amazing films being made for our viewing pleasure.

It just makes you feel good!

And for some pre Oscars fashion fun,
please follow my favorite costume designer, Luke Reichle on Twitter @RedCarpetLuke.  He is the fabulous costume designer for Castle...beautiful amazing costumes....and he really KNOWS his red carpet fashions!  Luke will be live-tweeting the Red Carpet...his tweets are always a hoot :)
